FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions:
How long should my hair before getting waxed?
Hair should be approximately a 1/4" or longer for best results, generally two weeks of growth.
Should I trim my hair before getting waxed?
It is not necessary to trim. Trimming will be performed at the time of service, if necessary.
Why not shave?
Shaving stimulates potential hair growth and can strengthen the hair follicle. shaving also cuts the hair at the hair shaft, which not only grows back with a stubbly feel, but it allows the hair to grow back the next day.
Can I be waxed during my menstrual cycle?
Waxing during your menstrual cycle is possible but is not recommended. During that time your body tends to be more sensitive due to the change of hormones and this could cause the service to be more painful and skin more sensitive. If you doctor permits, take an Advil or Tylenol 30 minutes before your appointment, some say it relieves discomfort that comes from waxing.
Can I go the tanning booth or sunbathe after my waxing treatment?
It is not recommended for 24-48 hours, as tanning can inflame the skin.
How often do I need to wax?
Waxing removes hair at the root, so results last as long as it takes for new hair to grow. This should take about four to six weeks after your first session, although it varies from individual to individual.
What medications restrict me from getting waxed?
There are many medications that you should not take if waxing. Accutane, Proactive, Retin-A, Renova, Tazorac, Avage, StrVectin, Differin, Glycolic and Alpha Hydroxy Acid. If you have had any kind of microdermabrasion or chemical peel in the last 3 days, please refrain from waxing. I care about your skin, and if you are unsure, please consult your doctor before making an appointment.
How should I take care of my skin before and after waxing?
Exfoliate and hydrate the area to be waxed the day before your appointment. Using a gentle scrub or exfoliating gloves helps remove dead skin and allows the wax to remove the hair more effectively. Hydrating helps hair be less brittle and therefore less prone to breakage. After waxing avoid sun exposure 24-48 hours. Newly waxed skin is more prone to sunburn. Careful not to overheat. Saunas or extreme workouts are not advised immediately post wax. Do not soak in hot tubs and avoid extremely hot water 24-48 as the pores on your skin are still open. Exfoliate the area and keep the area from products (lotions, gels, deodorant etc) as possible for the day.
What is airbrush tanning?
Airbrush tanning is the application of a fine-mist bronze solution, through an airgun, by a trained and certified technician. The solution contains DHA plus an instant bronzer. It sprays on evenly to give a natural-looking tan without streaks or orange coloring
Is it safe?
Absolutely! Airbrush tanning has no exposure to damaging UV rays, and is the recommended source for sunless tanning by the American Academy of Dermatology. They also state the most effective products available are sunless or self-tanning products that contain Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which has been used in cosmetics for over 30 years and has been listed with the FDA since 1973. It is considered safe to color skin. However, if you are allergic to self-tanners, you may be allergic to the solutions in airbrush tanning.
What is DHA?
It is Dihydroxyacetone, which is natural carbohydrate compound derived from beets or cane sugar. DHA is approved by the FDA for supplements, creams, lotions and tanning solutions. It has a health risk of zero, and is considered a non-toxic material. The DHA is absorbed in the skin to tint the pigment over time, while a light bronzer shows up externally on the skin for an instant look. As dead skin sheds, the tan fades.
What do I wear?
Women may tan in undergarments, swimwear or nothing at all, depending on what makes them most comfortable. Men must wear boxers, shorts or swim trunks. Dark loose fitting clothing should be put on after a few minutes of drying.
Do I need to do anything before?
See pre-tanning preparations. Make sure you are clean, shaved and wearing no lotions, make-up or deodorant to ensure the solutions absorbs evenly and most effectively.
How long does it last?
Your tan should last 7-10 days on average. The amount of physical activity, after care, and proper preparation for the tan are all factors of how many days one can expect their tan to last. The more moisturized you keep your skin, the longer your tan will last. Always moisturize after showering. Keep from exfoliating until prior to your next tanning session, so it will fade slowly and evenly.
What do you recommend I use for a longer lasting tan?
Do not use heavily scented lotions, bar soaps and any products that contain alcohol. Dove soap in particular will strip your tan.
How long does it take?
The actual spray tan should take 7-10 minutes.
Will it stain by clothes or furniture?
You will have some of the bronzer rub off on clothing and bedding, but it washes out easily. We recommend putting something down on any cloth furniture before you sit, but if you do get some bronzer on furniture, it too will wash off.
How often can I get a spray tan?
You can receive a weekly application if desired. Although we recommend that after every 5 continuous weeks of spray tanning you allow your skin to rest for 10-14 days. This allows your skin to completely exfoliate which eliminates patchiness or uneven areas of wear. These areas are caused by normal contact with clothing and other surfaces which cause excessive exfoliation in certain areas.
Can I get spray tanned if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Although DHA is not harmful, if you are pregnant and/or breastfeeding you should consult your doctor first.
Why use airbrush tanning over UV tanning beds?
Safety!!! UV rays have been proven dangerous and damaging for your skin, causing skin cancer and pre-mature aging. Airbrush tanning gives you an even over-all glow instantly.
Does airbrush tanning prevent sunburns?
Our tanning solution does not provide any sun protection and it does not contain any sunscreen. Make sure to apply sunscreen to prevent sunburn when outdoors.
What variables can affect the quality of my airbrush tan?
Spray tan solution reacts differently with different skin types, not all skin will tan the same. The better condition your skin is in, the better your tan will look and last longer. Certain foods, medications and “that time of the month” can affect the pH balance of your skin. This imbalance can affect the tone, depth and fading of the tan.
